S R Raja of DMK has earned the unique distinction of recording victory with the highest margin, while R Chinnasamy of AIADMK got the dubious distinction of losing by a narrow margin of 14 votes. Pitted against K Somu of MDMK in the Tambaram constituency in Kancheepuram District, Mr Raja secured a whopping 2,69,717 votes of the total 5,61,888 votes polled in the May eight assembly polls.
His MDMK rival polled 2,20,965, leaving Raja winning by the biggest margin of 48,752 votes.
The second biggest margin was secured by G John Joseph of (CPI-M) who won by a difference of 45,074 votes against F Franklin of AIADMK in Vilavancode. Joseph polled 64,532 votes, while Franklin polled a mere 19,458 votes of the total 1,20,076 votes polled in the elections.
The lowest margin of victory was secured by Mr Chinnasamy who scraped through by a margin of 14 votes at Singanallur. He polled 1,00,283 votes of the total 2,40,267 votes, while his rival A Soundararajan (CPI-M) gave a tough fight before going down by a waferthin margin of 14 votes. The CPI-M candidate polled 1,00,269 votes.
Two more candidates also won by narrow margins with Mr Nanmaran of CPI(M) winning by a margin of 52 votes defeating M Bhoominathan of MDMK in Madurai East.
In Anaicut in Vellore district, Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister K Pandurangan of AIADMK won by 53 votes against his PMK rival Mrs Varalaskhmi.
It was also a close call for DMK stalwart, the party's General Secretary K Anbazhagan in Harbour constituency in the city, as he could win only by a margin of just 409 votes against Seema Basheer (MDMK).
