Congress to elect new leader in Pondicherry Saturday Chennai | May 12, 2006 10:15:07 PM IST The Congress legislative party in Pondicherry will meet Saturday to elect its new leader. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who registered a comfortable win in the Thattanchavady constituency, is slated to become the chief minister for a second time. Former chief minister V. Vaithilingam, who romped home from Nettapakkam for the sixth consecutive time, may emerge as the dark horse. The DMK, meanwhile, has announced its unconditional support to the Congress in forming the new government. The Congress-led coalition was returned to power in the Union Territory Thursday, securing 20 of the 30 seats. The Congress won 10 seats, its allies, the DMK - 7, PMK - 2 and CPI - 1. This former French colony had assembly polls in two phases on May 3 and May 8 where 6.5 million voters exercised their franchise. Two seats are in Kerala and a third in Andhra Pradesh. (IANS)
