Chandy expects a miraculous victory Kottayam | May 06, 2006 1:15:16 AM IST
A day after the assembly elections ended in Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said he was expecting a miraculous victory of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).A hopeful Chandy will be attending a two-day festival in his parish St George Orthodox Church Puthupally here Sunday and Monday where he is expected to pray for his miraculous victory. "I will be there in the church on both the days," Chandy told IANS. He added that he had been attending the annual festival without fail for several years. When asked if he expected a miracle in the polls, he shot back, "Do you have any doubts?" The annual feat of his parish, which is located merely a stone's throw away from his residence at Puthupally, is expected to be attended by thousands of devotees from various religious backgrounds who come with their wished to pray for. Chandy hopes that despite the odds, the UDF would retain power by a slender majority in the 140-member assembly. Even in the last cabinet meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram Thursday, the cabinet concluded that the UDF would return to power by bagging 75 seats. This optimism comes at a time when four different exit polls have predicted a landslide victory for the Left Democratic Front led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist. Counting of votes for the three-phased polls will take place Thursday. (IANS)
