PM seeks massive mandate for DPA in TN polls Chennai | May 05, 2006 11:36:31 AM IST
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today called upon the people of Tamil Nadu to give a massive mandate to the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in the May eight Assemby elections, saying Tamil Nadu deserved a better government to focus on the welfare of the common man.Addressing an election rally, sharing the dias with DMK President M Karunandhi at the Island Grounds here, Dr Singh appealed to the people to give a massive mandate to the DPA as they gave in the May 2004 Lok Sabha elections for the overall development of the state. ''I am confident you will once again support the DMK-led alliance as you did in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. I look to you for an equally handsome mandate when you cast your votes,'' Dr Singh, on a whistlestop tour to the state, said. The Prime Minister, who flew down here after addressing a poll meeting in Tiruchirapalli this evening, said ''this blessed state of Tamil Nadu is the pride of our nation and you must invest your votes for the future of the state.''
