82.17 per cent polling in fourth phase Bengal poll

Altogether 82.17 per cent of the 9.3 million electorate cast their votes in the fourth phase polling in West Bengal yesterday recording the highest polling so far in the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections.Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) Debasish Sen today said more than 88 per cent polling was reported from 2,931 of a total of 10,438 booths in Burdwan, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts which went to polls. However, the Election Commission did not order repolling in any of these booths following scrutiny of relevant documents as per its standing norm. While 80.18 per cent votes were polled in Burdwan, Birbhum and Murshidabad accounted for 82.25 and 84.83 per cent polling respectively. The high turnout forced polling to continue till 2100 hrs in many booths even as it was supposed to be over at 1700 hrs.
