95 per cent polling in Yanam

A massive 95 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Yanam assembly elections, according to the deputy collector and returning officer L Kumar.Polling was held on 21 booths, including six auxillary, which ended at 1700hrs. Mr Kumar told UNI that polling was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere. He said those who were in the queue till 1700 hrs were allowed to exercise their franchise, he added. Polling was brisk since it began. Heavy police bundobust was made and vehicles were checked. The main contest is between Congress candidate Malladi Krishna Rao and Independent Raksha Harikrisha, though there were 11 candidates in the fray including AIADMK's Machala Satya Sai Kumar and BSP's Moka Venkateswara Rao.
