Exit polls point at overwhelming Left majority Kolkata | May 04, 2006 12:37:40 PM IST
The exit polls by the three major regional channels once again indicated a landslide Left majority in three districts of Murshidabad, Burdwan and Birbhum, thereby signalling the return of the present government in power.With the fourth phase of the marathon five-phase polls in West Bengal over today, the Left have been given an overwhelming majority in the current exit polls. Polls in the fifth phase will take place for the remaining 49 seats in North Bengal and the one seat at Bhatpara in North 24 parganas where voting had been countermanded and will now take place on May 16. 'Star Ananda' today gave the Left 38 of the 57 seats for which elections were held. Congress, according to the exit polls, got 13, Trinamool Congress five and Independent one. 'Kolkata TV', went with the trend, quoting 39 seats in favour of the ruling party, seven for Trinamool Congress and 10 for Congress. They also gave Independents one. However, 'Chobbis Ghonta' (24-Hrs) gave an ultra-left result. According to their exit polls the Left will get 42 seats, Congress 10, Trinamool Congress four and Independents one. UNI BA PL VD ND2122
