BJP predicts hung Assembly, coalition government in TN

Predicting a hung Assembly in Tamil Nadu after the elections in Tamil Nadu, senior BJP Leader Bandaru Dattatreya today said neither of the dominant Dravidian parties will be able to secure a majority on their own.Talking to newspersons here before proceeding to Tenkasi for electioneering, he said in such an eventuality, his party would not extend support to either parties. The party was of the view the results would throw up a coalition government, a watershed in the state's political history, Ms Dattatreya added. On the rationale behind the party contesting alone in the Assembly election well after a decade, he said this was to ascertain its real strength and also increase its tally in the Assembly to double digits. After 1996, the BJP is facing the electorate on its own. He criticised both the DMK and the AIADMK came in for sharp criticism for announcing populist measures and a plethora of freebies instead of making a commitment to constructive development programmes.
