Pondicherry | May 04, 2006 12:37:15 PM IST

About 84 percent of the 45708 electorate exercised their franchise in the first phase of polling to the territorial assembly today, Chief Electoral Officer. Kumarasamy said.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the polling was peaceful without any incidents barring a case of impersonation.

Mahe registered 79 percent, Palloor 77 percent and Yanam 93 percent, he said and added this was supposed to be the highest poll percentage compared to the 2001 assembly elections and 2004 parliament elections.
