LDF, BJP have covert pact in Kerala: Congress Kochi | April 21, 2006 10:35:33 PM IST
The Congress in Kerala today alleged a covert alliance between the LDF and the BJP in the state to defeat the UDF, and accused the Left front of conducting a 'communal' campaign for the Assembly polls.KPCC spokesman M M Hassan told reporters here that the statements of the CPI and CPI(M) to review support to the UPA at the Centre after the elections and BJP leader L K Advani's assertion that the LDF would come to power in the state must be read together. 'This is evidence that there is a secret pact between the Communist parties and the BJP,' he said, adding that the Left's threat of withdrawal of support would serve no purpose except to revive a weakening BJP. He also accused the LDF of having given up on ''communism'' to spread ''communalism'' in joining hands with parties like the PDP and using pictures of their leader Abdul Nasser Madani, who is in prison in Tamil Nadu, for its campaign. Mr Hassan dismissed election surveys that had been predicting a return of LDF to power, saying there was no anti-incumbency factor in play in the state and that the UDF was confident of victory.
