Telecom services many hamper during polls Balurghat | April 19, 2006 11:13:25 AM IST
Telecom services may get hampered during the West Bengal assembly polls in South Dinajpur district as the Telecom Office employees have been appointed for election duty in North Dinajpur district. Out of 48 permanent employees of 20 exchanges of South Dinajpur, 33 have been deputed for election duty. Realising the problem, District Magistrate of South Dinajpur Syed Sarfaraj Ahmed had sent only 3 employees from his district. He said ''I was in the dark about the engagement of the Telecom employees of this district. I will discuss the matter with the District Election Officer of North Dinajpur.'' However, all the employees of Balurghat Telecom, under Raiganj Telecom District, had been appointed on election duty. The District Election Officer of North Dinajpur has appointed 33 employees of the district on election duty. ''I will go to Raiganj for election, there will be no permanent employees for Telegram. During the polls, the Telegram System will be hampered,'' DTO of Balurghat Telegram Exchange Gautam Pandey said. UNI XC JYN VJ PC0945
