Business Rs.138 cr water supply plant for Gurgaon
The Haryana government Thursday announced sanctioning of a Rs.138-crore (Rs.1.38 billion) project to improve drinking water supply in Gurgaon. A public health department spokesman said a second water treatment plant is proposed to be set up at village Chandu Budhera over an area of 274 acres. He added that land had already been acquired for this plant and the construction work would start next month. Gurgaon presently receives raw water from the Gurgaon water supply channel, which takes off from Kakroi in Sonepat district and reaches Basai in the district where the water is treated. The water carrying capacity of this channel had been increased from 100 cusec to 175 cusec at a cost of Rs.19.63 crore. Given the fast development of Gurgaon, the Haryana government had started construction work on the second water channel, known as NCR channel, last year at a cost of Rs.320 crore to cater to the drinking water needs of the increasing population of Gurgaon. js/vdm/dg ( 173 Words) 2009-11-05-14:52:27 (IANS)
