Chhattisgarh lit up 96 percent villages: Raman Singh

Chhattisgarh has lit up 96 percent of its total 20,000 villages, Chief Minister Raman Singh told the state assembly Tuesday. Claiming that the state was fast becoming the power hub of country, Singh said: "The state government has managed to light up 96 percent villages so far, out of about total 20,000 villages, including some of the extreme remote and largely inaccessible villages." "Chhattisgarh has become the first state in the country that introduced zero power cut system since Dec 31, 2007," he added. Rejecting opposition charges that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government did nothing to increase the power production, Singh said: "The state has surplus power and the zero power cut practice will be in place for at least next 10 years."suj/sj/vt (142 Words)08072107NNNN (IANS)
