Bengal Merlin to invest in affordable housing Kolkata | July 08, 2008 8:05:07 PM IST
Bengal Merlin Housing Ltd (BMHL) is now focusing on affordable housing as part of its corporate social responsibility, said a senior company official here Tuesday. BMHL managing director Sushil Mohta said: "We plan to construct assisted sector residential apartments as part of our corporate social responsibility." In the assisted sector projects, the West Bengal Housing Board has 11 percent stake and the rest lies with private players. In such projects, land will be acquired by the private companies. Though the realty sector has grown manifold in West Bengal, certain bottlenecks remained in the path of realty growth, he said. High cost of land in the state and the long process to get sanction for the projects are some of the problems, Mohta pointed out. "We would approach the government seeking infrastructural support like, constructing bus route to make commuting easier for the people dwelling in those flats," he said. "The major problem faced by us nowadays is severe shortage of skilled labours," Mohta added.ag/sj/vt (193 Words)08071947NNNN (IANS)
