GM to add 900 jobs at Brazil plant Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil | March 08, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST
General Motors Corp. plans to increase the number of employees at its plant in Sao Caetano do Sul, Brazil to 1,500, The Detroit Free Press reported Saturday. That number is up from the initial plan for 600 workers, the U.S. carmaker announced. The additional workers will be added to form a third shift, which will begin in the first half of this year, the newspaper said. In view of exceptional and consistent growth in the Brazilian market, General Motors do Brasil, having a 52.5 percent increase on its sales in the first two-month period of 2008 ? has decided to increase the number of new employees, the company said. General Motors sold 89,675 vehicles in Brazil in the first two months of the year, up from 58,790 in the same period a year ago. By comparison, the National Federation of Brazilian Car Dealers reported that sales of light vehicles grew 39.1 percent in the first two months of 2008, the Free Press said. (UPI)
