ONGC felicitates authors and contributors of its publications New Delhi | October 10, 2006 6:08:49 PM IST
The veterans behind the monumental Golden Jubilee publications of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) - 'Upstream India' and 'Downstream India' were felicitated at a ceremony here.Petroleum major ONGC has taken a unique initiative to preserve the history of Indian Petroleum industry. During its Golden Jubilee year, which ended on 14th August 2006, it undertook a monumental project to document the events defining the evolution of the Indian Petroleum industry - through the publication of two books, one on the Upstream Petroleum Industry and the second on the Downstream one. The stalwarts of the Indian Petroleum industry, who had shaped the growth of the industry since India's independence, were invited by ONGC to work on this History Project. The whole exercise started in late 2004. In less than two years time, these two books - 'Upstream India' and 'Downstream India', were published, based on intensive research. At a function to felicitate the researchers and authors of the publications, former Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC, Subir Raha, who conceptualized this History project, said that the history of the petroleum industry will serve to enlighten the beginners in the industry (who will lead the industry in future) to know about the industry and the organizations in it and their value system. "This would enable preserving the value system, which is required to reach the pinnacles of achievement," he said. The editorial approach of these Books has been to prepare a definitive and balanced history, free from personal opinions. This history project of ONGC is one of the rare examples where business houses do something which goes beyond business. ONGC is also the only organization which has got coins minted in its name in its Golden Jubilee Year. (ANI)
