Randhawa, Chowrasia finish tied 22nd at Hong Kong Open
Hong Kong | Sunday, Nov 15 2009 IST

Jyoti Randhawa's hopes of a top 10 finish went up in smoke as he slipped to the tied 22nd position where he was joined by SSP Chowrasia, who produced the best card of the day by an Indian, after the final round of the Hong Kong Open golf tournament here today.

Randhawa, who was at the joint 10th spot yesterday, failed to hold his nerves on the final day, turning in an even-par round which included three birdies and as many bogeys. Chowrasia, meanwhile, finished with a bang as he shook off his indifferent form of the previous round with a splendid five-under 65.

The Kolkata pro was in good nick on the front nine, with just a lone bogey at the turn. He then birdied the 13th, 14th and 17th to finish with a bang.

Jeev Milkha Singh also came up with his best card of the tournament, firing a four under 66. His total of of six-under 274 saw him climb to the tied 36th spot where he joined Rahil Gangjee (69).

Jeev did not enjoy a bright start, with bogeies on the first and fifth. However, a total of six birdies and a blemish-free back nine enabled him to stage a strong comeback. Gangjee also had a bad start, as he double bogeyed the opening hole with another couple of birdies later on. But he sank five birdies to return a sub-par card. Delhi pro Shiv Kapur (276) finished tied 48th with a four-under 66. Gregory Bourdy (261) of France held onto his third-round lead to clinch the title, two strokes ahead of Rory McIlroy (263) of Northern Ireland.
