UP police to take remand of Rail officer caught accepting bribe
Uttar Pradesh police will seek remand of a senior Railway official K M Tripathi, who was caught red-handed by CBI on Saturday last while accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 in the state capital. ''UP police will seek remand of the officer for his interrogation to find out from where he had acquired a 9 mm pistol,'' said state Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) A K Jain here today. He said the state police was in touch with the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) and State Crime Record Bureau to find out the details of the restricted fire-arm found in possession of the officer. The Railway officer, Regional manager of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), was sent to jail under judicial custody for two weeks on Sunday last after CBI arrested him on Saturday. The CBI sleuth caught the officer when he was accepting bribe from a contractor for awarding a catering work in the Railways. On complaint of the contractor, the CBI team had laid a trap and searched the official residence of the officer in Mall Avenue area of the state capital. During the search operation, the CBI had recovered Rs 30 lakhs in cash, one kilogram of gold brick, one foreign made restricted 9 mm pistol and several other documents. -- (UNI) -- 03DR79.xml
