World Bopanna-Qureshi advance in US Open; Paes-Black in 2nd round
The Indo-Pak duo of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi eased their way to a straight-set victory to enter the men's doubles pre-quarterfinals of US Open here. Bopanna-Qureshi defeated Michael Kohlmann of Germany and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 6-4, 6-4 in the second round yesterday. The Indo-Pak combination, seeded 16th in the season's last Grand Slam, thus continue their good form this year, after quarterfinal appearance in this year's Wimbledon. They will play second seeds Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia for a place in the quarterfinals. There was good news for India in mixed doubles event as well, as last year's finalists Leander Paes of India and Cara Black of Zimbabwe moved to the second round of the mixed doubles event.
