World $27 million new Indian school to set up in Dubai
A new 27 million dollar Indian school with CBSE syllabus is being set up in Dubai Silicon Oasis to ease the shortage of seats faced by Indian expatriate children here. The construction has already begun for the International Indian High School and the foundation stone was formally laid yesterday by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group, and Chairman of the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority. The new school will be ready by April 2011, and can accommodate up to 3,000 students. It will be an asset to the Indian community which runs the Indian High School established in 1961. The IHS is currently one of the largest schools in the UAE with more than 8,000 students. The new campus will have state-of-the-art facilities such as an amphitheatre, well-equipped IT department, wireless campus, activity room, gymnasium, swimming pool and a temperature-controlled indoor sports complex and virtual classrooms and smart boards, G B Choithram Jethwani, a founder trustee of the IHS told UNI. He said the new school as its predecessor IHS would offer high quality education at affordable cost. The school will offer the new international curriculum introduced by the CBSE with the academic focus extended to IT, research and subjects such as nanotechnology. Mohan Valrani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of IHS, however, told the Khaleej Times that the new school would also be non-profit but the fees would be a little higher than that of the IHS. The IHS is in great demand for its lower fees in expensive Dubai and there is a huge demand for the seats which are given on the basis of a lottery. -- (UNI) -- 17DF3.xml
