PM arrives in Washington on four-day state visit

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived here today on the four-day state visit for discussions with the US leadership on various crucial bilateral matters and global issues.

Cheering crowd of Indians settled in the US carrying tricolour in hands, greeted the Prime Minister as his Air India One touched down at the Andrews Air Force Base. A guard of honour was presented as Dr Singh came down from the aircraft. National anthems of both the countries were played and the Indian flag fluttered as the Prime Minister walked down the red carpet.

This is the first state visit under the Obama Administration.

Dr Singh was received at the Andrews Air Force Base by senior officials of the US administration and Indian Ambassador Meera Shankar, chief of protocol, US Assistant Secretary of State Robert Blake and US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer.
