MP lodges police complaint against MIC chief, son
Kuala Lumpur | November 20, 2009 5:20:22 PM IST

Malaysian MP N. Gobalakrishnan has lodged a police complaint against Malaysian Indian Congress President S. Samy Vellu and his son Velli Pari for being involved in a fraud.

Gobalakrishnan urged the authorities to investigate the awarding of a contract involving MIC's educational arm, Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED).

According to the report, in 2002, the MIED awarded a 40 million-ringgit information communications technology contract to Maika Intellectual Resources, which is owned by Vell Pari.

Gobalakrishnan alleges that both Samy Vellu and Vell Pari signed the offer letter.

The report further says that Maika Intellectual Resources subsequently awarded the contract to Doxport Technology (M) Sdn Bhd for 36 million ringgits in 2003.

Hence, the cost of the contract "increased" by 4 million ringgits, and that contractors were forced to bear Vell Pari's personal expenses to secure the deal.

Gobalakrishnan claimed that Samy Vellu, as the holder of trust for Asian Institute of Medical Science and Technology, should have ensured the "best price" for the contract but that he had failed to do so. (ANI)
