Islamabad police arrests UN building attack mastermind
Islamabad | November 20, 2009 3:41:51 PM IST

Islamabad police on Friday claimed to have arrested the mastermind of the suicide attack on the UN World Food Program building in which six UN officials were killed and dozen others were injured.

Addressing a press conference, in which the prime accused Jamsheed alias Tahir was presented before the media, Inspector General of Police Kalim Imam said Jamsheed was involved in all four-suicide attacks that have rocked the city this year.

"Five blasts took place in Islamabad in 2009, four of them have been investigated and he (Jamsheed) is involved in all four of those blasts," The Dawn quoted Imam, as saying.

"The suspect belongs to Islamabad's Lal Masjid and a group based in the Orakzai tribal region bordering Afghanistan," he added.

Imam revealed that Jamsheed had brought the two suicide bombers, Muhammad alias Ilyas and Haroon to attack World Food Program building and Rescue 15 offices.

"He brought the man to the World Food Programme building," Imam said.

Security officials have also recovered a suicide jacket, eight kilograms of explosives and over a dozen packets of ball bearings from Jamsheed. (ANI)
