World Middlesex sign Gilly for T20; wait on Tendulkar
Middlesex and the MCC expect to hear today if India's master blaster Sachin Tendulkar will be signing a one-off deal to play Friends Provident Twenty20 here next year. Tendulkar has said he will give Middlesex an answer after the end of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad. Whereas, former Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist confirmed yesterday he has signed for Middlesex next season to play in the T20. ''In 1989 I played for Richmond in the Middlesex League, and I am incredibly excited to be returning to London some 20 years later to play for the county,'' Gilchrist said. ''Playing domestic cricket in England is the last important piece in my resum as a professional cricketer and I feel very fortunate that I can now realise this ambition,'' he added. If Tendulkar agrees to join, then Gilchrist and the Indian will make their Middlesex debuts against Sussex at Lord's on June 3. The pair are contracted to play five matches at Lord's, three of which will be played under floodlights, with the MCC hoping to replicate the Twenty20 stage management of the Indian Premier League (IPL). -- (UNI) -- 20SPD16.xml
