Indian agents split our party: MJF chairman
Kathmandu | Wednesday, Jun 10 2009 IST

After near split of the Madhesi Jandhikar Forum following appointment of its leader Bijaya Kumar Gachchhedar to the post of deputy prime minister, its President Upendra Yadav said his party was split by Indian agents.

''There is the main role of Indian agents to split our party,'' Dainikee quoted Mr Yadav as saying today in Birgunj where Mr Gachchhedar and his supporters clashed in which some people including MP Karima Begam is said to be injured.

''Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal are working as Indian agents,'' he said when asked who the Indian agents are.

Meanwhile, the establishment faction and Bijaya Kumar Gachchedar-led faction of the MJF today clashed outside Samjana Hotel in Birgunj, the site of the ongoing MJF Central Committee meeting. Both of them have been claiming to have their majority in the party. Mr Yadav decided to suspend the membership of the party of Mr Gachhchhedar and seven other leaders.

However, the newly-elected deputy prime minister has said that he has the support of the majority of the MPs. He had presented the list of 32 MPs to the Prime Minister out of 52 of the party.

The debate started when Mr Gachchhedar became deputy prime minister while Mr Yadav, who was Foreign Minister during the Maoists government, also wanted to be included in the cabinet.

Meanwhile, Kantipur reported that MJF lawmaker Durga Devi has sustained minor injury in her left arm during the clash. The clash ensued after a group of 50 MJF cadres led by Mr Gachchedar faction's lawmaker Karima Begam exchanged heated debate with cadres of establishment faction. Parsa District Police Office informed the clash took a violent turn after the cadres of establishment faction chased away Begam's group and the two groups clashed again outside the site of CC meeting. The police have not yet been able to contain the situation.

Mr Gachchedar faction's activist Kalawati Devi has also sustained minor injury. Despite the clash, the MJF CC meeting is still underway in Birgunj.
