Wrong prescription causes 1600 deaths in UAE every year Dubai | Tuesday, Mar 31 2009 IST
Altogether 1,600 deaths per year may have occurred in UAE clinics due to prescription errors, a study has shown. Prescription errors also caused 22,000 serious adverse drug reactions in primary healthcare centres, the Khaleej Times said. As one third of the population are Indian expatriates, a substantial number of those affected may well be Indians. The study said the results point towards an urgent need for an e-prescription system, which is in the process of being implemented in public hospitals and clinics in the UAE. The author, Dr Rafiq RA Abou-Shaaban of Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Ajman University of Science and Technology, released the details of the study at the Dubai International Pharmaceuticals & Technologies Conference & Exhibition (DUPHAT) 2009 this week. -- (UNI) -- 31DF16.xml
