Air India aircraft's nose wheel collapses at Mumbai
Mumbai | May 16, 2008 5:45:14 PM IST

An Air India aircraft headed for Dubai was grounded after its nose wheel gear collapsed at the airport here Friday afternoon. Passengers were flown to the Gulf city by another jetliner.

The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft on lease with Air India was to take off for Dubai at 2.45 p.m. and was parked in the bay at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA)when the nose wheel was damaged.

An Air India engineer requesting anonymity told IANS that the nose wheel gear was being attended to by engineers when there was some hydraulic failure.

"The nose wheel gear fell just prior to the boarding. Luckily there were no passengers on board," he said.

Confirming the incident, an Air India spokesperson told IANS: "An alternate aircraft was made available to operate the designated flight AI-717 to Dubai." vb/rn/vt
