Teen killed with shard of glass
London | May 11, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST

A London teen who tried to intervene in a window-breaking was killed with a glass shard Saturday, the day after his 16th birthday.

Jimmy Mizen died at the Three Cooks Bakery in the Hither Green neighborhood, The Independent reported.

Police said a young man angry about being thrown out of the bakery picked up a sign and shattered the plate-glass window.

Al Patel, who works in a pharmacy next door to the bakery, said the window-breaker went ballistic after being thrown out twice. He said the bakery manager had blood on her face.

That shop is mostly run by women and I think Jimmy was trying to be brave and sort the mad kid out, Patel said. Customers ran in and told me to call police. An ambulance came and police turned up shortly after, but they were too late. The boy was dead. It's sad, it's a real tragedy. I really feel for the parents.

Police had made no arrests late Saturday.
