Quarantine train arrives in Toronto
Toronto | May 11, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST

A Canadian train arrived in Toronto 12 hours late Saturday after being released from a quarantine imposed following the death of an elderly passenger.

The train was stopped in Foleyet, a small town in Ontario, Friday. Several passengers had complained of flu-like symptoms.

Medical workers determined after examining the sick passengers that no one around them had become infected and cleared the train to proceed, the Toronto Sun reported.

Most passengers said the delay was no real hardship.

We chilled out and had drinks and beer, said 25-year-old Tina Knowles of Victoria, British Columbia.

A few economy-class passengers said they resented having to pay for additional on-train meals.

The dead passenger was described as an 84-year-old Australian woman. Officials said she'd had medical problems.
