Tulane fraternity had history of problems New Orleans | May 11, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST
The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity chapter suspended this week at New Orleans' Tulane University had a history of alleged illicit behavior, university officials say. University officials said members of the student government association, along with university newspaper staff, accused Alpha members in 2006 of committing sexual assaults and using date-rape drugs, The New Orleans Times-Picayune said Saturday. University officials admitted in a statement Wednesday that the university never investigated the charges detailed in a letter from student government officials, Apparently, there was no response from Tulane to this letter, which we regret, the university said. The head of the international fraternity once wrote to the university, alleging fraternity members had been unfairly and inappropriately accused of misconduct, the newspaper said. The Times-Picayune said 10 Alpha members were accused this week of pouring boiling water and various stinging agents on pledges. They have been suspended and face prison sentences up to 15 years fine up to $10,000 each, the report said. (UPI)
