Man faces prison in cat shooting Gurnee, Ill. | August 27, 2007 12:01:13 AM IST
A Gurnee, Ill., man faces criminal charges after he allegedly shot a neighborhood cat. The cat, Joshua, was recovering from surgery to remove a bullet fragment from one of his hind legs, The Waukegan News-Sun reported. The alleged incident occurred last month when neighborhood children found Joshua bleeding. We thought Joshua had been hit by a car, said the cat's owner, David St. Cyr. The next day, X-rays showed there was a bullet in his leg. St. Cyr's neighbor, Sean O. Hand, 42, faces charges of animal cruelty, torture of an animal and criminal damage to property. Hand could face up to three years in prison and fines of up to $25,000, the newspaper said. There is a question which weapon was used to shoot Joshua and who pulled the trigger. Ballistics tests were inconclusive on the bullet fragment retrieved from the cat, prosecutors said. There is no evidence Hand did anything, said Hand's attorney, Barry Boches. He surrendered his guns, and there is no evidence any had been fired recently. (UPI)
