Liverpool is Man U's main rivals: Ferguson

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Liverpool is still their main rival despite Manchester City's growth in recent years.

Acknowledging Manchester City's progress in recent times, Ferguson, however, said: "At the moment, Liverpool is still the one. But you have to recognize City has become more than it ever was in terms of the intensity of the games and the competition between our two clubs."

"There may come a time when we won't be able to separate the two games, considering the progress City are making at the moment," The Sun quoted him, as saying.eflecting City's growing dominance in the English Premier League. He said: "When you look back at the Charity Shield between City and ourselves it was almost like a European final because of the intensity of the game and the way it swung back and forth."

"If we played tiddlywinks it would still be a hell of a competition, so you cannot dismiss it completely. But just look at the interest in this game. It's quite unparalleled," he added.

Ferguson revealed that he relishes any encounter with Liverpool at the Anfield despite the fierce rivalry between the two most successful clubs in England.

"I think the atmosphere is terrific. The games against Liverpool in the last two or three years haven't been great for us. We've not done as well as we used to," he added. (ANI)
