Sports Chowrasia lone Indian to make cut, Jeev, Kapur miss out
Finishing blues cost Indian golfers dearly, as Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia, was the only one of the four to make the midway cut at Open de Alstom Friday. Even Chowrasia bogeyed three of his last six holes, and dropped from a likely top-15 placing to tied 44th at the Le Golf National here. Meanwhile, Jeev Milkha Singh bogeyed his last two holes, the 17th and 18th, and missed the cut by two with a total of three-over for two days. He had a three-under 68 on the first day and a six-over 77 on second. Jeev ended tied 90th. Also missing the cut at the end was Shiv Kapur who bogeyed his finishing hole, the ninth, and missed the cut by one. He had a 72 each in both rounds and ended at two-over 142 as the cut came at 141. The fourth Indian, Jyoti Randhawa, followed up his first round 76 with a 74 in second and ended at eight-over 150 and crashed out. Last week's BMW International Open runner-up Rafa Echenique moved into the lead four-under 67 to move to 10-under for two rounds and was two clear of Steve Webster, Martin Kaymer and Charl Schwartzl, all of who were at eight-under. Kaymer, having opened with a course record-equalling 62, produced only a one over 72 for a share of second spot with Schwartzel and Webster. Webster produced the best for the day (65) a week after spending five hours in hospital after a loft door hit him in the eye while he was helping his father. Webster missed last week's event in Germany following the incident. vks/av/jg ( 285 Words) 2009-07-04-15:06:29 (IANS)
