Qadir summoned by Pak NA committee to explain reason for his sudden resignation
Cricket | July 04, 2009 1:52:45 PM IST

Former Pakistan chief selector Abdul Qadir has been summoned by the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Sports to explain his sudden resignation from the post.

The committee has asked Qadir to appear before it on July 14 to explain the reason behind resigning suddenly from the chief selector's chair.

Sources said the committee would also discuss the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt's decision to dissolve the national senior and junior selection committees.

Sports Minister Aftab Shah Jillani said that fingers have been raised on the PCB's working in the recent past, and that the government was concerned about the matter and would take necessary action regarding it.

"What can I say on the performance of the Board. It is before everyone and everyone is worried and has pointed out flaws. What more can I add to this?" The Dawn quoted Jillani, as saying.

Jillani said he does not want to comment more on the issue, as allegations have also been made against him for interfering in PCB's internal matters.

"I was offered the post of PCB Chairman but I turned it down. I don't want to hold any position in the Board. But definitely I would like to see improvement in its working. Hopefully when the new constitution is implemented it will reduce discretionary powers of the chairman and give more authority to the governing council members," he added.

Meawhile, Qadir has blamed team manager Yawar Saeed and coach Intikhab Alam of ruining Pakistan cricket.

Qadir said that both Saeed and Alam were taking the team towards disaster.

He also revealed that captain Younis Khan had told him that Alam should not be a part of the team selection procedure, during the one-day series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates (UAE),. (ANI)
