Indian shooters' unimpressive run continues at ISSF World Cup

Indian shooters continued their pale show for the second successive day at the ISSF World Cup here today, as Vivek Singh, Samaresh Jung and Tejaswini Sawant all failed to qualify for the finals of the 10m air rifle pistol event.

Vivek, who was the best among the Indian shooters narrowly missed the finals just by a point as he secured the 9th position with a score of 581 (98+93+99+97+96+98), while his highly-rated counterpart Samaresh had to settle for a disappoiting 15th spot with a score of 578 (95+97+97+94+99+96) in the 52-shooter field.

Amanpreet Singh Jhaam finished 22nd.

In the minimum qualifying score (MQS) section, Deepak Sharma scored 571 (96+94+93+95+95+98) and Ronak Pandit shot a score of 560 (91+95+97+93+92+92).

The gold in this event was won by Vladimir Gontcharov of Russia with a score of 686.4 (587+99.4), silver by Ekimov Leonid of Russia with a shot of 686.1 (584+102.1), while Lapeyre Walter of France took the bronze with a score of 685.3 (585+100.3).

Meanwhile, in the women's 10m air rifle event Tejaswini Sawant, who earlier won a bronze at the Australia Cup here, finished 14th with a score of 395 (97+99+99+100).

Her compatriots also fell by the way side with Suma Shirur finishing 20th with a score of 394 (97+99+99+99), while Avneet Kaur Sidhu eneded her day at 50th with a shot score of 390 (98+96+97+99) in the 74-shooter field.

Meanwhile, in the minimum qualifying score (MQS) section of the event Anjali Bhagwat shot a score of 395 (97+100+98+100), while Meena Kumari scored 389 (98+94+97+100).

The gold in this event was won by Du Li of China with a score of 502.3 (399+103.3), silver by Zhao Yinghui of China with a score of 499.7 (397+102.7 shoot off 10.1) while Dovgun Olga of Kazakhistan won the bronze with a score of 499.7 (397+102.7 shoot off 9.9).
