The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially advertised for the post of the national team coach. The board has posted an advertisement on its website, calling for interested candidates to submit their applications by May 15. PCB Director, Cricket Operations, Zakir Khan said persons applying for the post must possess certain qualifications. "We have set certain standards to apply for the post. Anyone meeting our criteria, including foreigners, are welcome to apply," Zakir said. The appointment will be for an initial period of two years starting from June 2007 and terms and conditions would be negotiable. The candidate must have played at least first class cricket and should possess 'exceptional communication and man-management skills' and computer knowledge. Good interpersonal skills 'to develop and sustain cohesive team structures' is also a prerequisite. The new coach's responsibilities will include working closely with the selectors and the Director of Game Development, Mudassar Nazar, Zakir added. Zakir said the advertisement had been forwarded to the International Cricket Council (ICC), full member countries' cricket boards and other international cricket websites. "We initiated discussions with some coaches but then decided to advertise the post to have a bigger field to choose from. We are keeping an open mind. We will complete our selection process by June," Zakir said. According to the Daily Times, this is the first time the board has advertised the post of a national team coach. Former India coach New Zealander John Wright, and Leicestershire's Tim Boon are the favourites for the job, but the PCB has remained tight-lipped about the candidates. (ANI)
