Johnston sees no shame in losing to Kiwis Georgetown (Guyana) | April 10, 2007 5:15:06 PM IST
Ireland skipper Trent Johnston insists there was no shame in losing to Kiwis, one of the favourites to win World Cup. "New Zealand are a special outfit. They are one of the favourites to win this thing (World Cup) and there is no shame in losing to them, albeit heavily," Johnston was quoted as saying by the BBC. "We can look at the positives - and our bowling and fielding were top again." Ireland lost to New Zealand by 129 runs in a Super Eight match of the World Cup at the Providence Stadium Monday. Batting first New Zealand set a target of 264 runs for Ireland, who were bowled out for just 134 runs in 37.4 overs. Johnston admitted that a 71-run partnership in 7.1 overs by Brendan McCullum and James Franklin, cost his side very dear. "That was probably what took the game away from us to be honest. But until that we had bowled well and kept them pretty quiet. Kyle McCallan and Andrew White were great again and we were restricting them at one point," he said. "And, like I say, our performance in the field is always good and we pride ourselves on it. So we'll take the positives out of this and try to learn from what went wrong." (IANS)
