Endorsement contract clause to cover domestic cricketers also Mumbai | April 10, 2007 12:45:17 AM IST
The domestic cricketers, playing in the Duleep, Ranji, Irani and other domestic tournaments, will also come under the scanner of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and will have to submit the copies of their existing or future endorsements contracts to the board. A BCCI source said here today that the cricket board's decision would also cover all domestic cricketers and the players would have to send copies of all the existing or future endorsement contracts to the BCCI. ''We will ask all the units affiliated to the BCCI to find out how many of their players, if any, are having endorsement deals with sponsors and copies of these would have to be sent to us. Copies of any future sponsorship deals will also have to be sent to us,'' the source added. The Working Committee, which met here on April 7 to decide on the issue of players' endorsements, had directed the players to submit a copy of their existing contracts with sponsors to the BCCI. ''We are not against players earning money through these deals but there's a strong feeling that the agents are exploiting some of these young cricketers and we want to prevent this from happening,'' the source explained.
