Australia winning is nothing new. Ricky Ponting playing a match-winning knock is routine. It was just another match from the past as Australia and Ponting continued to demonstrate their supremacy at the world level.

We have got used to Australia winning comfortably or pulling off victories from improbable situations. This one -- against arch rivals England -- was re-confirmation that the team has not lost the zeal to win.

Australia's hunger for victories has not subsided and England were at the receiving end as Ponting and his team continued their campaign to keep the World Cup for the third time in a row.

Ponting and Australia have experienced many difficult situations. They have been performing for a long time and have come to enjoy their status in world cricket. It has not been achieved overnight but is a culmination of some brilliant planning.

Look at Ponting. He is a leader of men. He knows his players well and the team responds to his demands more consistently than the others. There is a sense of pride in everything that an Australian cricketer does on field and Ponting knows how to extract the best out of them.

What I like about Ponting is the style he brings to his job. He knows how to control the game and he has exhibited his leadership skills quite impressively. There is a specific role for each player and this is where Ponting shows his man management by getting them to perform at crucial stages when involved in big events.

It is a tribute to the Australian system that they churn out such mentally strong cricketers so consistently.

I must mention the case of Andrew Symonds. He was injured and when most thought he was lost as far as the World Cup was concerned, Ponting stood up for his most explosive batsman.

Symonds has recovered and looks good to carry the team forward. He does not believe in hanging around aimlessly and continues to play his shots with the same flourish that saw him play some huge innings for Australia in the last five years.
