Australia ragains top ODI team position from the Proteas Dubai | April 09, 2007 6:40:16 PM IST
World champions Australia has regained the top position in the LG ICC ODI Championship table from South Africa following its consistent run so far in the World Cup. Prior to the weekend's action, the Proteas were on top of the table by a fraction of a ratings point, but following its shocking defeat at the hands of Bangladesh on Saturday, it has dropped to the second position with 125 points. The Aussies, however, confirmed their foothold on the top spot with 128 points after their comfortable seven-wicket victory over England in their Super Eight game yesterday. Meanwhile, a good finish for Graeme Smith's men in the Super Eights will keep the pressure on the Australians and if the Aussies slip once in their remaining Super Eight matches, it could see South Africa go into the last four of the World Cup as the number-one ODI team again. However, there was no such movement towards the bottom half of the the ladder with England retaining its seventh position, just two points ahead of the host West Indies and three behind India. LG ICC ODI Championship Table on April 8: 1. Australia (128), 2. South Africa (125), 3. New Zealand (115), 4. Sri Lanka (110), 5. Pakistan (110), 6. India (106), 7. England (103), 8. West Indies (101), 9. Bangladesh (46), 10. Zimbabwe (22), 11. Kenya (0). UNI XC SSC RK0956
