Sarfaraz sends Rs.100 million legal notice to PCB chief Lahore | April 09, 2007 4:13:42 PM IST
Former Pakistan Test fast bowler Sarfaraz Nawaz has sent a legal notice to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Nasim Ashraf demanding a public apology or Rs.100 million as compensation for using foul language against him in one of his interviews published in an Urdu daily. "Yes, I have sent the legal notice through Law Firm Qayuum and Associates to Nasim Ashraf for defiling my character in his interview to some Urdu newspaper," the Daily Times quoted Sarfaraz, as saying. "He called me a person of low background (bazari) and said I was not a Pakistani. I take exception to his comments," Sarfaraz told reporters at the Lahore Press Club. Sarfaraz, who has played 55 Tests and 45 one-day internationals for Pakistan, said the legal notice was the first step and he would take Ashraf to a court of law. Sarfaraz has alleged that the Pakistani players deliberately under-performed against the West Indies and Ireland in the World Cup. Former captain Imran Khan and all-rounder Shoaib Malik have already threatened to take him to court for his allegations that, they said, had no substance and were meant to harm Pakistan cricket. Sarfaraz, however, insists that whatever he was doing was for the betterment of Pakistan cricket. "The players who are trying to defame my repute in the national media and elsewhere will face legal action," he warned.(ANI)
