Its time for Kevin to step up the gear: Richards London | April 08, 2007 12:42:59 AM IST
Legendary West Indian Vivian Richards has asked England batsman Kevin Pietersen to step up the gear and win more matches for his side to achieve his dream of becoming world's best batsman. According to Richards, Vaughan's men have a do-or-die situation against Australia tomorrow to keep alive any realistic chance of making it to the semi-finals and it provides a perfect stage for Pietersen to showcase his class. ''Kevin is a special player and bats the way I like to see people bat. He takes the game to the opposition and is so difficult to bowl, but there is no point in being that good if you don't see the job through and win matches. That is the next step he needs to take to become the best,'' Richards was quoted by The Daily Mirror as saying. ''He knows he needs to step up a bit and what better place to do it than with the situation as it is and against Australia,'' he added. Richards also exuded confidence over the World number one ODI batsman's abilities saying, ''I think he can achieve his dream if he works hard and keeps improving.'' The former West Indian skipper also admitted he loves watching the 26-year-old Englishman bat as it reminds him of his playing days. UNI XC SSC PDS VV1711
