Chappell offered role in National Cricket Academy
Mumbai | April 07, 2007 1:15:16 AM IST

Former India coach Greg Chappell, whose term ended with the World Cup, could take a suitable position in the Bangalore-based National Cricket Academy (NCA), said sources here Friday.

"Chappell gave a very impressive power point presentation at the meeting," a top Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official who attended the meeting told IANS.

"After that when the board offered him a post in the NCA, he said that if there was a proper offer, he would give a proper reply," said the official, who attended the meeting called to take stock of the team's World Cup debacle.

The official denied that Chappell was specifically offered the post of NCA director.

India crashed out in the first round of the World Cup in the West Indies recently, losing two of the three group matches.

Earlier, BCCI president Sharad Pawar lauded Chappell on the completion of his two-year contract. He said in a statement that his services of the former Australia captain could be utilised.

"Mr. Pawar was of the opinion that Mr. Greg Chappell could be associated with Indian cricket and help in the implementation of the long term plans although he is no more coach of the Indian team," said the BCCI in the statement.

During his 22-month tenure, the Indian team played 62 one-day internationals, won 32, lost 27 and three matches ended in no result. In Test matches, India did better under the former Australia captain. They played 18 matches, won seven, lost four and drew seven. (IANS)
