Sachin needs to concentrate on Test cricket only: Rameez Raja New Delhi | April 07, 2007 12:42:23 AM IST
Former Pakistan skipper Rameez Raja has advised Sachin Tendulkar to quit one-day cricket and concentrate only on Test cricket, as he lacked the fire power needed for the shorter version of the game. ''I would want to see Sachin Tendulkar play regularly for India in Test matches, may be not so much in one-day cricket as you need a little bit more of firepower in your one-day squad, and the youngsters can provide that,'' Rameez told CNN-IBN. Questioning the master blaster's match-winning abilities, Raja said, ''His graph has been going down of late. Though he still averages in the higher 50s, but he has not been able to win matches for India consistently for quite a few years.'' ''You need a bit of experience and class in the longer version of the game and certainly Sachin still possess that experience and class,'' the 44-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator said. He also believes that Greg Chappell has failed to inspire and make the Indian team play like a unit in the mega event. ''In this World Cup India never looked like a team. Unfortunately he was unable to spot the right talent to replace some of the older generation,'' Rameez said. ''His relationship with the players dwindled because he was a little too tough and his ways of dealing with some of the players was not appropriate,'' he added. UNI SSC PDS ND1658
