Bihar backs Zee on parallel cricket league Patna | April 05, 2007 12:44:13 AM IST
Essel Group's proposed Indian Cricket League (ICL) received first major shot in the arm with Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) and Association of Bihar Cricket (ABC) backing the move today. The representatives of these organisations said the move would help promote cricket in the country. ABC president and former cricketer Kirti Azad welcomed the move by Essel. ''The Indian cricket will certainly have talented and promising young players if the players are hired from foreign countries as announced by Chairman of the Essel World Subhash Chandra,'' Mr Azad told UNI over phone from Delhi. He said the step would provide platform to the young and promising players who struggle to display their skills. Mr Azad, however, said the ICL would not be a traditional cricket league and a lot depends on whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) gives recognition to it although he added: ''The BCCI should not object to the proposal for the ICL.'' Coming down heavily on the BCCI, he seconded Mr Chandra's argument that the board does not represent the entire nation as only fifteen states were allowed to play the matches. Mr Azad was all praise for the move of the Essel Group. He said that if the step was ''genuine'' and for the cause of the cricket in the country, it would provide opportunities for the young cricketers. MORE UNI RS JYN DH SSC BST1642
