Saqlain shows desire to wear English cricket team jersey London | April 04, 2007 12:54:17 PM IST
Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has expressed his desire to play for England national side after attaining the citizenship of the colonial country. The 30-year-old champion spinner, who is still regarded as the master of 'doosra' (the away-going delivery) has recently attained a British passport - the eligibility for considering as a future Test player for England - after he married a British national nine years ago. ''I really don't know, I haven't thought. Obviously I'd love to play international cricket, but that is in the second phase of my thoughts, the first phase is I must get back playing well and then we'll see about it because I have been out of cricket for the last three years,'' Saqlain told the sky Sports, adding, ''but if I get a call from the English board then I'll think about it and discuss it with my family and friends.'' ''I'm just excited to wear the cricket uniform once again.'' The former Pakistan spinner, who has also represented the Irish national side last year, is gearing up for his first season with Sussex, and his first full summer since his time with Surrey, three years ago.
