Woolmer's body embalmed, second autopsy impossible
London | April 03, 2007 4:06:22 PM IST

Bungling officials in Jamaica have reportedly embalmed Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer's body, ruling out the possibility of a second autopsy.

In a case that has seen unprecedented twists and turns in the application of the science of criminology, this seems another bizarre addition, defying acceptable and standard investigational norms and logic.

According to The Sun, the hotel room where Woolmer died more than two weeks ago, contains a crushed juice carton that could have contained poison or drugs used to overcome the ex-England star, 58, before he was strangled.

A chair brought in from the balcony suggests that Woolmer might have had a meeting after the team's shock defeat by Ireland.

A drinks fridge could indicate that he hit the bottle to relieve his despair after the match. Dark stains are on the carpet outside the bathroom, where police say Bob's body was found.

Torn sheets could indicate violence, or a restless night after his team's failure. Pillows are missing, backing reports that police seized a blood-stained pillowcase.

Cops also took Bob's laptop, used to send an e-mail to his wife hours before his death.

Marks on the window show where a forensics team dusted for fingerprints, but the door shows no signs of forced entry.

An initial post mortem revealed a broken bone in his neck consistent with strangulation.

But other tell-tale signs like welts around the throat were not present, and experts say a diabetic Bob could have suffered the injury by falling in the bathroom after collapsing of natural causes.

Back-tracking Jamaican police now insist they are keeping an open mind on the cause of death. (ANI)
