Indian team fined for slow over-rate Kingston (Jamaica) | March 30, 2007 1:15:17 AM IST
The Indian cricket team has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during its 69-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the World Cup Group B match played March 23. Match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of International Cricket Council (ICC) Match Referees imposed the fine Wednesday after Rahul Dravid's side was ruled to be one over short of its target at the scheduled finish of the Sri Lanka innings when time allowances were taken into consideration. In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount. As such, Dravid has been fined 10 percent of his match fee while other players have each been fined five percent of the same. India's defeat at Port of Spain had virtually ruled them out of the World Cup. Bangladesh, to whom India had lost their first Group B match by five wickets, overwhelmed Bermuda two days later, to book their place in the Super Eight stage and send India home. (IANS)
