Kapil urges to stop blame game over India's WC debacle Gandhinagar | March 27, 2007 8:10:00 PM IST
Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev on Tuesday urged all those who are engaged in the blame game after India's early exit from the World Cup, to stop it, saying we should think before doing or making any statement against the cricketers. "Now that the team has lost, every voice would be negative. It is wrong, we should think before doing or saying anything. Of course our team hasn't played well. But for that we should sit and take some concrete decisions," he said after unveiling model of the country's largest indoor cricket stadium here. Expressing disappointment over the Indian team's performance in the cricket's most coveted tournament, the 1983 World Cup winning captain said it was high time to identify and worked upon the errors and areas of weaknesses "so that we don't face losses every now and then". The 1983 winners and finalists four years ago, crashed out in the first round of the event in the Caribbean last week after losing two out of three group matches, to Bangladesh and former champions Sri Lanka. India managed to win only a single match, that too against debutants Bermuda. The result led to a widespread demand by several former players and irate fans to axe captain Rahul Dravid and coach Greg Chappell. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Sharad Pawar, has said that decision on coach and captain, whose terms ended with the World Cup, would be taken by the board after hearing their account of the tour and reading the manager's report at its meeting on April 6-7 in Mumbai.
