Playing blame game over India's ouster is wrong: Pawar
Pune | March 27, 2007 6:06:21 PM IST

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Sharad Pawar, today said that indulging in the blame game after India's ouster from the World Cup was "wrong".

Reiterating that he was not happy with the team's performance in the Caribbean islands, Pawar, however, said that the country went after the cricket team, ignoring the fact that Bangladesh played a good cricket against India.

"As the president of the BCCI, I was not at all happy with the overall performance and the teamwork. There was something lacking. But this has happened and they lost, so we decided to leave everything aside and start playing the blame game. This is wrong. It is also wrong to ignore the way Bangladesh played. We should worry about the qualitative improvement the team has made," he said on the sidelines of a function.

Speaking on his proposal to introduce two teams for India-India Seniors and India Blue-he said the idea was to encourage and give opportunity to younger players.

"The idea is to encourage and give opportunity to younger players... substantially. Introduce domestic cricket more... give opportunity to everybody... make it a compulsion for international players that they should play domestic cricket which can boost the morale of the team," Pawar said.

While the seniors will consist of the more experienced players, India Blue will also get a chance at international games, he added.

The BCCI will meet on April 6 and 7 in Mumbai to take stock of the national team's performance at the World Cup. Several former captains are expected to attend the meeting to decide the future course of action.

The 1983 winners crashed out in the first round of the event in the Caribbean last week after losing two out of three group matches, to Bangladesh and former champions Sri Lanka.

The result led to a widespread demand by several former players and irate fans to axe captain Rahul Dravid and coach Greg Chappell. (ANI)
